Wild cold weather shows up on the skin, especially the lips, inspired by the late winter blood orange season this minimal scrub will have your lips smooth and moisturised in no time.

Orange trees are a symbol of love and marriage in many cultures, brides traditionally wear orange blossoms in their hair.

GATHER: 2 bowls-one larger, a grater and a spoon.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Blood orange

1 Dessertspoon of muscovado sugar
1 Dessertspoon of coconut oil

You can be creative with this recipe and use whatever you have in your kitchen. If you prefer lemons use lemons or a mixture of citrus zests. If you want to use coconut sugar or honey the recipe will work just as well.

1. Grate the zest of half the blood orange

2. Next, put the smaller of your bowls in the larger one, put the coconut oil in the smaller bowl and some hot water into the large bowl. Make sure the water doesn't cover the smaller bowl. The coconut oil will melt in 5-10 minutes. (see picture below)

3. Put the sugar in a bowl and add the zest and coconut oil, combine and mix. As the mixture cools the coconut oil will set, leaving you with a delicious paste that is the perfect consistency to use as a lip scrub. This scrub will last in the fridge for 10 days to two weeks.

INGREDIENT INFO:

COCONUT OIL: Coconut oil is antimicrobial, packed with antioxidants and vitamin E, coconut oil is a perfect skin drink.

MUSCAVADO:  A soft rich grained sugar it is great as an exfoliant it makes this recipe into a lovely paste texture.

ORANGE: Orange zest is where the oil is found, rich in anti-oxidants and vitamin C, zesty, sunny, and refreshing, this oil uplifts the senses. A natural detoxifier it will maintain smooth skin it also alleviates anxiety, anger and the winter blues.
